A DAY IN THE LIFE, Vol. "WELL OILED MACHINE"

Right after Titan Taft's opening, I hung out with Cess and her girl friends. I wasn't my usual self and I felt so lethargic in the party... Alcohol did not do the trick, and I was not in the mood for coffee.

I felt so light-headed. And then I realized I never had a decent meal all day. I realized it right after I brought my girl home, which meant I was already alone in the car... and I had a gastronomic free pass to eat whatever I want!

This came to mind!

Sometimes lavish dishes and expensive flavors take a back seat to nostalgia and the familiar. BURGER MACHINE was very much part of my childhood. My father was a professional race car/rally car driver back in the TRD days of Dante Silverio and Team Toyota, and I can remember, whenever he would take me to their garage, a hulking piece of colorful metal stood prominently outside. I wasn't sure if it was the smell of grilled burgers or gasoline... But it smelled good. So my father would buy me a burger just to get me out of the dangerous pit.

They say when you're hungry everything tastes good so don't quote me on this: The burger I had that night, was the best burger I ever had. Yes sir. I felt like a kid again.

My girl is now a hardcore basketball fan. Thanks to, in her own words, the very cute Jeremy Lin.

Then over the weekend, we went around Greenhills to chill, and naturally we had to pass by the tiangge. And I was amazed x shocked to see Jeremy Lin knock-off jerseys on virtually every kiosk in the area! Home, Away, and even St. Patty's day unis!

When we got home, we decided to just stay in, watch TV, and check our emails in bed. I saw this design post by @ajdimarucot of ajdimarucot.com. Just for kicks, he did the dopest logo study for Jeremy Lin. It was mindblowingly good... LVL ASIAN stuff! #NoRACIST

TITAN TAFT OPENING EVENT

In our family, all men are expected to go out in to the world as La Sallites. Whether you graduate from LSGH, or Zobel (like my brother and I), or got your degree from DLSU... It does not matter. As long as you got some La Sallian green in your blood, you're good.

I'm a 3rd generation La Sallite, and I've heard my fair share of legendary La Sallian stories. Like when back in the day the St. Joseph Building towered over everything, to why there is a hall inside that was named after our family, and how that guy is related to us, to how the DLSC vs ADMU NCAA rivalry became very violent and people would see it as "just another game" (DLSU was called DLSC then).

But one story stands true until this very day. There is no place like the Taft Ave. billiard halls. My father and uncle would waste away their day, allowance included, in that place! If yous a sucker on pool, it's best to just stay out of the room. Those game halls are now pretty much a part of DLSU's long standing heritage as much as any building inside the campus.

But one establishment is out to match the legend of the smokey pool dens of Taft Ave. Minus the shady atmosphere, of course! Years from now, people will talk about this place, and how it changed Animo Ave.'s landscape for the better.

TITAN opened their 4th store in Taft avenue last Friday... And it was nothing short of amazing. Lucky for me, I was right smack in the middle of history - on the very night it opened - perfect story to share with the my future La Sallite kids and grand kids!

Multiple products were unveiled, rangingfrom the Nike Flyknit footwear, to the USA Basketball uniform, to the nextevolution of NIKE Lunarlon footwear.

Let's talk about basketball then! Let's start with the unis...

Nike Hyper Elite Basketball Uniform

Combining NIKE’S lightest, mosttechnologically advanced textiles with iconic graphics, the Nike Hyper EliteBasketball Uniform helps boost players’ performance and communicates the prideof USA Basketball.

The innovation begins with NikeAerographics, an engineered fabric that is a passive cooling solution allowinggreater design and graphic flexibility while creating mesh areas in a garmentwithout adding seams. It adds graphic interest to a garment that actuallycontributes to the performance by increasing air circulation. The Nike HyperElite Shorts to be worn by the USA Basketball team alone weigh in at 14 ounceslighter than the average shorts currently worn by professional players.Further, since unveiling Nike Aerographics in 2008, the NIKE design team hasharnessed the technology’s bold design applications and endless graphicpossibilities.

Nike Sportswear for Basketball

In the summer 1992fifteen men left the United States and headed east in search of gold. Theirdestination was Barcelona. Their calling was Basketball. Their's was a uniquejourney. The squad was the first USAB team to feature active professionalbasketball players and naturally were considered huge favorites to finish thatsummer with gold around their necks. They were referred to, and forever willbe, as The Dream Team. Widely considered one of the strongest teams assembledin any sport they won every game they played by an average of 44 points.

The team's first gametogether came ahead of their flight to Barcelona in Portland, Oregon (a fittingbirthplace for what is to come this summer) and resulted in a victory by amargin of almost 80 points. The defeated coach summed up the gap between theDream Team and his team when he said “You can't cover the sun with yourfinger.”

A great summer ofsport happened in Catalan region that summer, but The Dream Team became theicon of that moment and the influence they created on young sports enthusiastsaround the world can be felt today as you look up and down the rosters thefinest basketball organizations across the United States. To commemorate 20years since their victory Nike Sportswear has created a line of apparel payinghomage to the team. The standout piece is without doubt The Dream TeamDestroyer Jacket. A premium execution of a silhouette that has become one ofNike Sportswear's best pieces tells some of the great stories of The DreamTeam's summer. On the left-breast ofthe jacket there is a USA flag embroidered with inspiration from military andspace travel as well as each game score stitched in. U S A is embroidered in a toweling-effect on theright-hand side of the body with a USAB pin-badge included. The numbers of theteam's 'starting five' - 15, 9, 7, 14 and 6 - are also embroidered on theright-sleeve. We've also included a large embroidered XX to represent the 20thyear since the games and "Land of the Free, Home of The Brave' in italicizedfonts above the front pockets on either side.

"When we werelooking through our archives, we also found a replica of the Dream Team jerseythat Nike had created with a message to the team created on the jack tag. We'vere-imagined that graphic on the inside of the jacket, calling out the 20thanniversary. In addition to The Destroyer Jacket, which is really the pinnaclepiece of the collection we've also created elements of this storytelling on anAW77 Hoody, Crew sweat, Tees and Caps. In addition to the apparel collectionwe're also going to be re-issuing some of the footwear styles that the teamwore for the tournament," added Stott. Nike Sportswear footwear stylesinclude Nike Air More Uptempo, Nike Shox BB4, Nike Air Force 180, Nike Air ZoomHuarache 2K4 and Nike Air Force 1 Hi.

I can hardly wait! Word is the basketball line will be available on the 1st of August. Hopefully these will hit our shores.

Here's another thing I want to talk about, The Nike FlyKnit Collection. This genius, out-of-the-box design marvel was unveiled alongside the other tech upgrades... And for me, the FlyKnit stole the show.

NIKE has engineeredknit for performance to create running footwear that features only theessentials. Employing a new technology called Nike Flyknit, yarns and fabricvariations are precisely engineered only where they are needed for afeatherweight, formfitting and virtually seamless upper.

With all thestructure and support knitted in, the Nike Flyknit Racer’s upper and tongueweigh just 34 grams (1.2 ounces). The whole shoe weighs a mere 160g (5.6ounces) for a size 9, which is 19% lighter than the Nike Zoom Streak 3, a shoeworn by first, second and third place athletes in the men’s marathon at the2011 World Championships.

While reducing shoeweight is one aspect of helping runners, the Nike Flyknit upper is alsoengineered for a precision fit, creating a feeling of a second skin.

An additionalenvironmentally sustainable benefit to Nike Flyknit is that it reduces wastebecause the one-piece upper does not use the multiple materials and materialcuts used in traditional sports footwear manufacture. Nike Flyknit is truly aminimalist design with maximum return.

The HTM Trainer+pushes the boundaries of what Nike Flyknit could do and showcases the aestheticpossibilities of fabrics and colors and patterns.

There are 3 things I want to share:

///First.
As soon as I can open my eyes, my father has been encouraging me to watch basketball... And not just basketball... but LAKERS showtime basketball.

My first vivid memory of a great basketball game was way back 1991. It was the Bulls visiting the Lakers. The finals. I think that was game 1... I was 6, and my Dad, a die-hard Laker, was urging me to root for Magic and the showtime squad. I admired Magic, more so now because I mostly play point - but that Jordan guy was very, very hard to hate.

I didn't want to be like Mike... Because Magic, then and even now, is my only peg of a great basketball player. But as a kid growing up in a Laker household, I felt really guilty for being a Jordan fan. I felt awful coveting those black and red shoes that Mike had on... With the Porsche-like spoiler... And clear bottoms. I didn't know what they were called back then... All I knew was they were beautiful.

But at some point I realized, with the help of my Laker-loving family, that what I was feeling was not anything negative - rather a deeper sense of respect for the game.

And so, very much like Magic's beautiful game, Mike in these shoes were instrumental in birthing my love for basketball.

///Second.

I wouldn't call this my retirement... Because no one really does.

All it is is a conscious effort to end the days when I'd come home with 10 pairs of limiteds in the trunk of my car after just one night, or doubling up on a pair just for the heck of it, or doing something really financially stupid involving my wallet and eBay. I would still buy once in a while, a pair here, a pair there... But my "ball-so-hard" days are now behind me.

Truth be told, when all is said and done I wouldn't want to end it with copping just any pair. If I'm going out... I'm going out with a bang... switching hands in mid-air, banking it on the glass, and I would make it count.

And just like Jay-Z's ALLURE, I'll never leave this, I just can't. I don't think I can turn my back on this THING, this hobby that has made me so happy. I'm just taking a step back. I'll return... Wearing 45. I'm sure of it.

///Third.

In this game, we always put a premium on the footwear a little more than the people who wear them. Fortunately for me, I fell in the right circle. I'm pretty blessed to be with this group of people who, if I may say, are way more valuable than any pair of limiteds. You can't buy them, you can't trade them, and you can't cop them from eBay.

Clear soles yellow. Air units pop. Needless to say, shoes turn to dust. But these people, these friends... Brothers... Are all solid individuals.

Honor amongst hustlers - that is the rarest of all the grails in this culture. I am truly humbled to be in rarified AIR... In the company of great men.

Mackie Correa and Jason Tan are two of those people. These dudes gave "Presyong Kaibigan" (Friendly Price) a whole new meaning.

Mackie, thanks for hooking me up with these. And Jason, Pare, thank you for entrusting them to me. I can't thank you enough. Haha you lied tho, bro. You said they were VNDS... They seem very DS! Haha!

What's good Legend,

A year ago today, I got my licence to practice Architecture. And as some of you know, that should've been the end of Locker Room Legends.

You see, this blog was an experiment. Youcan probably say it was an accident. The product of a curious mind lacking anysense of focus, and a heart that beats for basketball, Hip-Hop and its culture.

I'm not a writer, nor a graphic artist. Idon't know anything about CSS, HTML, and script codes neither. I am anArchitect, and I was a student working my way to an Architecture license when Ithought of The Locker Room.

My aching head that was brimming withtechnical info and random construction tidbits needed a distraction. I had todo something that was totally detached from Architecture...

And I found this.

It was my way of clearing my brain's palette,at the same time I wanted to contribute something worthwhile to this communitythat has been so good to me. Although I told my girl Cess, my close friends, aswell as those who knew about the site that I'll be putting Legends down as soonas I get my license.

Locker RoomLegends went online on December 21, 2010. A simple photo of MJ's iconic rookie card was our veryfirst entry (see "ROOKIE CARD"). I didn't think much of itthen, a newb move really... But looking back, it was all aspirational. A symbolof a rookie coming up, getting off the sidelines, and working hard.

The site was inspired by the pureness of thegame (straight up black and white), and the realness of the people that play itwell. It is an idealistic view of a subculture that is dynamic and diverse.

My high school coach once told me that a gameis not won or lost on the court, but in the locker room. In there, there are noscreaming fans... No cameras... No showboating. Just the realness of themoment. A place where it is alright for a grown man to hang his head low indefeat, or pop champagne in victory.

Winning is not a fad in the locker room.There is no hype nor fiasco. Just the players, and the desire to be better.

Hence, the name. Locker Room Legends.

Like most things in life and architecture,I built Locker Room Legends from the ground up. From the chalkboard to thechampionships... Scripting my own codes, sketching my own graphics,"hacking" the favicon and the foot credits. With the very limitedtime that I had, I taught myself how to build a site. For some it may not bemuch, elementary even... But I'm hella proud of it.

All for love.

A post led to another; from my first event(see "LOVE AT FIRST SKATE"), to my firstblogged pick-up (see "SUMTH'N LIKE A VENOMENON"), Locker RoomLegends provided me with a much needed and well deserved outlet. And I thinkearly in its run, my blog has done some good for the community and culture as awhole.

Then that day came when I finally made it andbecame a full fledged Architect. I was ready to shut everything down. I said mythanks... And thought Locker Room Legends has served its purpose (see "THE MOMENT AND THE VICTORY").

But somethingtold me that the Locker Room had become so much bigger than expected. I'vededicated a huge chunk of my thoughts and myself into the blog... And with allthe love that I've received from friends, especially from random people who visitthe site on the regular, I just couldn't bring myself to put down somethingthat was essentially already part of me.

But come to think of it, for a personal blogI think I have imprinted very little of myself in it. Just enough for people toknow that it's by "that" dude. I was never alone in making this blog,because YOU were always in it. It's not called LEGENDS (plural) for nothing.Locker Room Legends aimed to be faceless, spontaneous and experiential. A blogthat, ultimately, told our story as a culture.

And so here we are, a year later... Still blogging, still updating you with the illest that our culture has to offer, and still pretty much alive.

On that note, I want to thank the following for making Locker Room Legends what it is today:

With all the hooplah from DOT's new tourism ~~campaign~~ meme, it's hard not to be proud of your country and her children. It may be controversial and not-so-original, but you can't deny that its simplicity carries its realness. There is nothing more golden that the fact that it's more fun in the Philippines... Ask Kobe! LOL

I was telling my girl Cess on our way to Ayala Museum that the campaign was not so much about the tourist spots as it was about the citizens in it. See how one simple, borderline boring slogan became an interactive, collaborative and communal sensation... Whether we hated it or loved it, our people made it work.

Our people make our country fun.

One such Filipino is Winifredo Camacho, lead designer at Mercedes-Benz, and the dude responsible for the new generation E-Class.

Do you have any idea how bad-ass that job description is? LEAD DESIGNER FOR MERCEDES-BENZ... And yet he is one of the coolest cats in the industry of design. Very low-key and humble, despite the fact that he has every reason to brag about his dopeness.

Anyway, AYALA MUSEUM's DesignTalks hosted the event and invited industry people, design fiends, and motor heads to this rare opportunity to pick the brain of one of our generation's most influential automobile designers. My designer/architect alter ego went "0-60 in 2 seconds" crazy upon hearing the event - There is no way I'm letting this blow past me. Besides, I've been raised in a family where all grown men own and ride a Benz... So there's that deep-seeded admiration for anything Chedeng.

Of course, curating then blogging all the wisdom and inspiration I picked up from the lecture is next to impossible, but I took a few photos to show you how it went. I'll try my best to share with you the moment.

PERFORMANCE REVIEW /// CONVERSE DEFCON MID

In this edition of The Locker Room Legends' Performance Review, we take a look at Converse' flagship basketball shoe, THE DEFCON MID.

Converse Basketball is on a huge comeback as of late. It started earlier this year when The Star showcased a couple new models at the World Basketball Festival... They never looked back. Along with the Pro Leather 2K11s (the modern Dr. Js), the DEFCON is their best to date. Aesthetically on point, and technically at par with the best in its class.

The Defcon consists of a perforated patent leather toe box and tongue, held together by a mesh construction. All of this is incorporated to make a very solid booty via a flat lock stitch. Then the entire shoe is held by a One-Piece Vamp wrapping the shoe, starting from the midsole... All the way to the upper - a technology completely unique to the Defcon. Another significant feature is its locking/lacing system, because the interlocking web runs the entire foam cage upper, providing solid foot lockdown.

The One-Piece Vamp is sort of a Foam Cage that protects the player, as well as provide efficiency to his game. Like what I said, its a solid one piece material that runs from the midsole to the midfoot, and then to the ankle. The ankle (and a good part of the upper) is integrated with Converse' very own CONtain Fit Technology. CONtain Fit Technology forms a lightweight brace around the foot and helps provide breathable structural support and cushioning. CONtain Fit contours the foot and transfers all physical force directly to the traction system and CBT unit for increased on-court maneuverability.

The same One-Piece Vamp helps transfer energy and bounce to the CBT (Converse Balls Technology) sole unit to provide the player with the extra hop and bounce, literally. The heel is cradled in a carbon fiber frame to provide security and stability. The outsole is treaded very well to provided much needed traction, especially for faster players.

As much as I would like to go in-depth with the review, similar to The Player DL Mid I did from a while back (see PERFORMANCE REVIEW /// CONVERSE THE PLAYER DL MID), I was not able to use the Defcon on an actual pick-up game, though I've made basic maneuvers in them.

From the very little that I did, it's interesting to note that the Defcon is surprisingly light! Weighing roughly 14 oz., the Defcon provides maximum ride, comfort and protection without the unnecessary bulk and weight! The CONtain Fit Technology is also very effective in providing ankle support and stability. Traction is absolutely on point... Coupled with the bounce of the CBT unit, any guard or any player that relies on his quickness would instantly feel the response and would be benefit on a quicker first step.

The only problem that I had with the Defcon was with it's heel lock. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad! It provided enough security, but it was barely noticeable. Regardless, the web locking lace system was enough to hold my feet down.

But so far, it's a really good shoe! Everything that you could possibly want is in it. It's got style, it's lightweight, it's got a really good cushioning system, traction is excellent... There is no reason why you wouldn't want it! The Defcon Mids come in several colorways, but the Gunmetal is the best in my opinion (word to ROBOCOP)! Check out your nearest Converse outlet and department store kiosks and cop yourself a pair or two! The CONVERSE DEFCON MID retails for Php 5,750.00.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST /// KOBE VII "LEOPARD" PICK-UP

Christmas is proving to be the Lakers' least favorite holiday. My broken and battered Lakeshow collapsed under Derrick Rose and his Chi-town Bulls' clutch offensive and defensive onslaught. Heart breaker indeed. Oh well... December games don't matter that much anyway. The Lakers are gunning for June, 'blee dat!

The Lakers may have had a rough start to their season and eventhough Kobe's wrist is hurting (not to mention all that divorce drama), at least he's still slaying everyone with his shoe game!

Year after year, The Black Mamba's Nike line pushes the envelope of performance and concept! This is what I like about the Kobe series; the shoes that they come up with are actually smart, and I do dare say avant garde. Kobe's thought process is very definite per shoe. One moment everyone's hating on 'em coz they are so low. They keep on saying that it's a bum ankle waiting to happen... Next thing you know two-thirds of the league is wearing 'em! Can I get a witness? They were so good, Rondo wore them once!

Even the colorways are very well conceptualized... Witty, even! I LOL'd really hard when LeBron broke out his Captain Obvious Red and Green Christmas joints last year... Right next to Kobe's grinches! Grinches? Really? Who would've thunk that?

This year, Nike and Kobe made the entire shoe process more participative and interactive. How? The shoe adapts to your game via the interchangeable insoles. Check out my in-depth Kobe VII entry here.

Anyway, eventhough I'm a huge Laker fan and I can't be completely objective on the matter, you have to admit that Nike and Kobe's partnership has churned out a bunch of intellectually forward shoes.

This is the latest from that proud lineage, I picked it up right after Christmas: Nike Zoom Kobe VII System Supreme. The Leopard VIIs. Or Cheetahs. Or Christmases. Or Decepticons. Or Sex-On-Feet. Call 'em whatever you want... It doesn't matter. It won't change the fact that they are sick! On with the photos...

The interchangeable insoles look so good, you'd want to wear them on their own! It proved to be a real workout taking them out, though!

Both look good... Can't go wrong with either. Just go with your game!

Gotta love the fact that it looks like a sportscar, a decepticon, and a sneaker that a villain would rock!

CELEBRITY STATUS /// TITAN 2K12 CELEBRITY TOURNAMENT

I'm not sure why I was invited to compete in this tournament. I am not in any way a celebrity (my only claim to fame is this blog!). And if ever I was, I would probably be on the D-List! HA HA! Nevertheless, I am proud to be among the selected few to compete in the Inaugural TITAN CLASSIC... Ehem... 2K12 Celebrity Challenge, rather.

Professional ballers, TV Personalities, Rockstars and street culture taste-makers were pitted against each other in a single elimination tournament. NBA 2K Supremacy was settled in 4-3 minute quarters. It was very exciting and nerve wracking! My first round battle went to overtime, and was decided by a single bucket!

The games were hosted by Rely San Agustin, and Marc Macayan (MK9 champ and the dude who runs yourdailydoseofmarc.com). I think refreshments and ice cold beer were served by #Shaby's (not really sure about that one), and the muy delicioso hotdogs were provided by Sabrett!

On the far side of the RONAC Court, an Air Jordan exhibit showcasing some of the rarest, most expensive and sought after J's from some of best collectors in the industry were on hand to bring nostalgia, a bit of envy, and a whole lot of excitement to all fans who idolize the greatest to ever do it! Amazing job by Jojo, Rely, and the boys from Lightening Country!

And of course, Titan, who orchestrated this entire event! Amazing job as always! The tournament coincided with the Concord 11 release, and the Titan drop of the highly anticipated shoe will go down in sneaker history as one of the most organized sneaker operations ever. From the chip allocation and dispersal (even resellers started doing trivia games via their respective FB pages), to the system of claiming the pair, any sneakerhead would be hard press to find another event THAT organized and calculated. Congratulations fam!

What's good fam? Yesterday I uploaded photos of my really dirty Hare 7s just before it's Jason Markk bath. But if you haven't seen it, then check it here.

Alright... Some of you may have been on Jason Markk for a minute now, and already know how great it is. It's actually my first time to use the product, LOL that's because I used to clean my shoes with mild soap. And that went on for YEARS!

It did work for me, don't get me wrong... But it's just too damn tasking. You had to lather it up, you had to be careful not to mix it with other parts of the shoe, you had to rinse it... Then you had to repeat the process, and so on. Not to mention I can't use my trusty concoction to clean delicate materials like suede, nubuck, and the like.

The inconvenience, plus the mounting pile of shoes to clean, prompted me to use the JM kit.

So here we are! The results:

The world's biggest and greatest online sneaker empire celebrated it's 12th anniversary last saturday over at KYSS. And like Chris Paul... All I can say is: WOW.

If you weren't there, sorry but you missed big time. 'Coz no matter how hard I describe it - with all the superlatives thrown in, I probably won't do the event's dopeness any justice. IT WAS STRAIGHT UP CRAZY THAT NIGHT!!!

Models with bottles, ballers, big industry players, game changers, NT'ers and well wishers flocked the club and went in hard the entire night. A bunch of prizes were raffled off every hour, and I was fortunate enough to win again (streak continues!). Prizes include dope ass GCs, shirts, CDs, (dude... seriously too many too mention), a pair of Concord 11s... And a silent auction for a RUN DMC signed pair of Superstars! Word to my good friend Doc!

I've been a member of this mighty community for years now... Not long enough to be OG (LOL VERY FAR FROM IT), but just long enough to see how it was back then. Alright... A yoga post in The Locker Room? You guys might be thinking it's a bit out of place. Well... Not really. Athletes do it, basketball wives do it... Heck! I wouldn't be surprised if Phil Jackson does it!

What I'm trying to say here is that yoga, and it's benefits, directly relates to you, in more ways than one. I wouldn't have thought of professional athletes doing yoga 'til a friend (who is into yoga) told me about it. And I wouldn't really co-sign Yoga 'till my girl got into it... Haha! She has been bugging me to buy her a mat.

For those who of you who are thinking of trying it, there's this new studio in Ortigas called CORE YOGA. They've been holding sessions there since November and is currently the only establishment in the Ortigas CBD dedicated to teaching yoga.

The man that's been on a tear since his Tour of China and his showstopping stint in Smart's Ultimate All-Star Weekend has been seen rocking his trusty Nike Zoom KD IIIs day in and day out in a series of colorways... All of that is about to change.

Starting this December, a new KD will usher in the new NBA season... It's latest incarnation:

There has been no other player in history of the game that was as busy during the off-season (Shaq doing movies included) - particularly during this lockout summer, as Kevin Durant.

There were probably a handful that went in, few and far in between - but The Durantula made his presence, and his game, felt all over the basketball world.

From historical Araneta Coliseum, to the legendary Rucker Park... From the land of the Great Wall, to the halls of his Longhorn home, Kevin Durant went hard for the game; being selfless, with no regard to his own well-being or condition, oblivious to the fact that an injury might compromise his season or God-forbid - his career.

With his backpack snuggly slung on his back, he represents the kid in all of us. Playing the role of the backpack baller who has nothing to lose, and everything to gain... The one that hasn't made it yet... Hungry for a quick pick-up to prove to others (and most likely to himself as well) that he has paid his dues, and there is very, VERY little you can do to stop him.

Nobody embodied the famous Jordan clause "For The Love of the Game" more than this dude. Not contented with just playing it, he also made a point of sharing it. He schooled young kids, he shot a movie, played in ads, and participated in Nike's powerful "Basketball Never Stops" campaign.

So what's up with y'all? I've have been really busy with a bunch of projects, but life's been good all around. Just got home from Korea, one of the most charming places I've been to... Really nice people (yes, OG Koreans are the exact opposite of PI Koreans... True story), Seoul people are so nice that they're running a close 2nd to Davao folk... And they're closing the gap fast.

Anyway, it's been a while since my last post, and I'm assuming you've heard of the Association finally closing a deal and "unlocking out" the league. I just crawled out from under a rock that I was in for the past week and I haven't heard nor read the details of the 15 hour meeting, so right now excuse me for assuming that the December 25 league start is still tentative.

Regardless of it's "up in the air" status, I would like to celebrate this triumph with a short list of the people and moments that made the lockout less... hmm.. Excrutiating.

1. SMART ALL-STAR TEAM

With the dark cloud of the Lockout looming over the NBA, The Manila hoops scene was still as bright as ever... If not brighter than ever. The leagues up and coming phenoms as well as their brightest and highly decorated stars showed up in the newly christened Smart-Araneta Coliseum to celebrate the game and the passion.

The rest as they say is history. Were you there?

2. LOCAL HOOP LEAGUES, CHARITY PICK-UPS AND THE PROS THAT WENT HARD FOR THE GAME. #KevinDurant

You've seen the vids in YouTube, you've heard it at sports and inuman chatter, you may have witnessed it in person... The greatness and spectacle of the "season that never was" was truly worthy of a hall of fame induction.

I don't even know where to start.

But lemme tell you something: If I had to pick an MVP for the "LOCKOUT SEASON", it would be this dude:

3. "BASKETBALL NEVER STOPS" NIKE AD CAMPAIGN

My favorite sportswear brand knew how to empathize and sympathize with their millions of heart-broken hoop fans. In a classy and almost subliminal campaign, Nike single-handedly urged everyone that basketball does not end, nor start with the NBA.

The spotlight does not shine on the one who gets paid the fattest, nor most followed on twitter... It shines for the one that wants it the most.

And last but not the least,

4. DEREK FISHER

The rock and the leader of my Lakers was a class act the entire ordeal. I could go on and on and on how he was instrumental in making it all happen for us... But I'm sure you true hoop fans that appreciate a little class and dignity in life and the game already know.

If you have a chance of getting a copy of his semi-autobiography/book on life and basketball, I suggest you cop it right away. It would be really hard not to respect the man after reading it.

To join the armory of Nike x Manny Pacquiao's 2011 Holiday Collection, teaser images of this very limited Manny Pacquiao hoody surfaced on the net; dubbed Nike Ultimatum KO.

A nod to the Pacman's position as Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Army Reserve, the hoody has this camo green finish on a seemingly breathable fabric. Military-inspired patches are strategically attached on the sleeves and chest.

Sadly, I don't think this will reach local Nike retailers; it will be available tomorrow specifically at Nike Las Vegas, and the 21 Mercer store in New York. Also through the Nike BOOM app.
